Research Status

I have been engaged in research and teaching in the field of communication systems and computer networkssince 1991. I have led and completed numerous national key and major research projects.Asone of the main pioneers in the field ofInternet and nextgeneration Internet technologyin China,I have made outstanding contributions to the development of computer Internet science and technologyin China.

1. I have served as the main technical director of China Education and Research Network (CERNET)since 1994.Icompleted projects such as China Education and ResearchNetwork(CERNET) Demonstration Project. CERNET has becomethelargest national academic networkin the world, playing an important role ineducation, scientific research, and Information technology industryin China.

2.I have engaged in the research and construction of IPv6 network since 1997.Iled toestablishthefirst IPv6 network connected with the next generation Internet 6BONEin China.Iserved as the main technicaldirectorof Natural Science Foundation ChinaNetwork (NSFCNET)in 2000andthe main technical director of China Japan IPv6ExperimentalNetworkin 2002.Ihas served as the main technical director of the next generation Internet in China(CERNET2) since 2004.It employspure IPv6 protocol stack, and multipleequipmentsfrom differentmanufacturersare integrated to form network.Ithas tested the IPv4 over IPv6transition technology and the real source addressvalidation technology. It has become the largest pure IPv6 network in the worldcurrentlyand has played an important role in promoting the development ofthenext generation Internetin China.

3. Ihave focused on researching IPv4/IPv6 transition technologiessince 2007andinvented the statelesstranslation technology IVI basedonoperator prefix. It solved the stateless mapping problem between IPv4 addresses and massive IPv6 address spaces, as well as the translation problem between incompatible IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. The operation on CERNET2 has proved its principle and engineering feasibility, andshowedthe core advantages of this technology to keep Internet stateless and end-to-end communication, which can well support sustainable development and future application of Internet.
